From “Secrets of the City” – Mpls/St. Paul Magazine - June 14, 2012
Want to check out tattoo artists’ work without having to stare awkwardly at a stranger’s bicep or upper thigh? AZ Gallery is offering up a chance to see art done outside shop hours by ink-administering artists, in a mix of styles and mediums (no, it won’t just be tattoos). Curated by Jessie McNally, the exhibit includes artists from local shops such as Leviticus, Steady Tattoo, Ink Lab, and Autonomy, and also includes expats such as Andy Heffner, Heath Rave, and Kevin McNutt, who continued their work in other cities. The off-the-clock accomplishments of these 18 tattooists are sure to make you feel slightly less accomplished from finishing a whole season ofMad Men in a week.
Check out the exhibit, located near Mears Park, which you can conveniently hop over to afterwards in time to hear a little live Communist Daughter. The AZ Gallery even encourages parking in their lot (The Farmer’s Market lot) and walking over to the concert in the park. Talk about a cultured Thursday night. 5:30 p.m. Free. — AA
